...Perhaps you’re wondering about the women’s guild!
LWML would like to invite all of the ladies to join us this upcoming year to meet and exceed our commitments and project goals.
The purpose of LWML (Lutheran Women’s Missionary League) is to:
Provide Christian growth - collectively and individually
Promote the work of the Church at home and at large
Serve the congregation according to our God-given abilities
Promote and support the work and program of the LWML
...Perhaps you’re wondering, “Does LWML really do that much here at Redeemer?” The answer is “Yes, indeed!”
We are responsible for:
v
Monthly stipend for our student at Concordia (Jimmy Pacey - Austin, TX)v
Monthly stipend for seminary students at Fort Wayne for 2009-2010 year, Jacob Gaugert and Robert Hunterv
Ongoing mite collection for LWML Missionsv
Receptions for new members, baptisms, confirmations, and graduationsv
Sunshine Committee - sending birthday cards to congregation membersv
Lap robes and blankets, sewn by our ladies, delivered to Golden Age Nursing Home in Fairhope, Montrose Bay Nursing Home in Montrose, and Ronald McDonald House in Mobile
...Perhaps you’re wondering, “Where do they get the money to do all these things?”
The answer is “fundraising!!!” The Women’s Guild has to have money to meet these needs, so we have a few fund raisers throughout the year, which include Coupon Book Sale, German Sausage Dinner, and the Christmas Bazaar.
All of these projects were well received and well attended this year, and Thrivent will match our funds much of the time.
These fundraisers take a quite a lot of time and effort, but they are well worth it, so that we can continue to share God’s love and Word through our missions.
...Perhaps you’re wondering, “Do they really need more people? Am I really needed?”
The answer is “Yes, by all means—we need you!!!” Over the years, the numbers of our Women’s Guild has steadily decreased. Our personal and work schedules have only become more and more hectic.
However, LWML’s goals have not changed, but have become that much more important in today’s rat race, where little time is left for God and his Word.
We need all of the ladies of Redeemer to join the LWML. Think of how much more we could do with more members. Many hands make light work.
We meet on the 3rd Tuesday of every month (no meetings during summer).
The morning group meets at 9 am in the parish hall and usually does the work with the lap robes. No sewing experience is necessary. If you can tie a knot, we need you there.
The evening meetings are at 7 pm and are guaranteed to last no more than one hour.
